Preview of Plans and Projects of the Coming Year
Recovery for All
In 2012 we will continue to build on success of the current and previous years. Below are highlights of our plans:
Renewal of LGBT Focus
Back in 2007, NAMI made an important decision to step forward and address LGBT mental health issues. To get started we hosted a listening session with various leaders from this community. In 2012 we will revisit the report and recommendations of the listening session to assess progress made to date and to outline our next steps.
Next Generation of Champions
We will build on our first Better Together: Multicultural Champions Conference, held last spring, with tailoring from lessons learned through our work with the first group of participants by bringing a new group of NAMI State Organization delegations to another offering of this in-depth diversity strategic planning conference.
Sharing Hope 3.0
Reflecting data and feedback from local coordinators of Sharing Hope: Understanding Mental Health, the third annual improvements tentatively planned for 2012 include increased efficiency of updates and access to materials by housing in an electronic portal, expanding promotional and outreach materials to include a video vignette of mental health recovery perspectives among African-American leaders of NAMI and increasing
peer coaching opportunities among site coordinators.
A group of Latino advisors came together in September 2010 in direct response to the success of Sharing Hope: Understanding Mental Health to discuss the possibility of creating a similar program similar for Latino communities, acknowledging a myriad of cultural implications for adapting this template. Compartiendo Esperanza will be designed to facilitate outreach for NAMI state and affiliate organizations to successfully engage Latino populations, promoting activities of relationship-building to help increase interest and participation in Familia a Familia and other NAMI Spanish-language programming. The Multicultural Action Center will focus in 2012 on final development and planning rollout of this program.
