NAMI Connection is a new recovery support group program being introduced over the next three years across the country.  These support groups will be led by individuals who are in recovery themselves

While there are other NAMI programs that support recovery, NAMI Connection is new NAMI Connection is similar to the existing NAMI-C.A.R.E. program, but improves and expands on it.  It offers weekly meetings instead of only one or two a month.

Recovery support group meetings will be held in multiple locations within a state or even within a particular city.  Meetings will be run by trained facilitators living with mental illnesses who are at a point in recovery where they want to “give back” to others.

NAMI’s goal is for anyone with mental illness to have access to a recovery support group every day of the week, no matter where they live, by the year 2010.

In 2007, NAMI Connection is being established in major cities in the following states:  California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Ohio, and South Carolina.  Other states will be able to apply to launch the program in 2008 or 2009.

NAMI will provide support to state organizations and affiliates as they adopt the NAMI Connection program.
