NAMI Basics is a free 6-session education course for parents and other kinship caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental health illnesses. The course is taught by trained teachers who are also parents/caregivers of individuals who developed the symptoms of mental illness in childhood.  Classes include: getting an accurate diagnosis, treatment options, communication skills, handling challenging behavior, and advocating for your child. The curriculum discusses current information about the major childhood mental illnesses and provides the fundamentals a caregiver needs to care for themselves, their family, and their child who is living with a mental illness.
