IT Systems Technician - Arlington VA
|
NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of persons living with serious mental illness and their families. Founded in 1979, NAMI has become the nation’s voice on mental illness, a national organization including NAMI organizations in every state and in over 1100 local communities across the country who join together to meet the NAMI mission through advocacy, research, support, and education.
We currently have an opening for an IT Systems Technician. The individual in the position ensures the stable and reliable operation of all Information Technology systems including personal computers, laptops and servers. He or she provides helpdesk support to NAMI staff and ensures IT equipment needs are met for all major conferences, internal meetings, etc.
Reports To:Chief Information Officer
Essential Functions:
•Monitors and maintains all information services, defined as e-mail, file and print services, web-based applications, internet connectivity, anti-virus and intrusion protection, network backup, and functionality of national office workstations to ensure maximum uptime (ideally, 24x7). •Ensures backup system is working correctly and backups are maintained. Acts as primary computer support person for entire office. •Works to ensure all workstations are fully functional with current software, anti-virus protection, and patches. •Assists all national staff in the utilization of all computing resources. •Works with convention team to serve IT technology needs at major conferences (Leadership Institute, National Convention). •Recommends system upgrades
Working Conditions:
•Non-profit organization •Must be available for network emergencies outside normal office hours. •NAMI is not a technical organization; the position’s primary customers will largely be very inexperienced in IT matters.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•In-depth knowledge of PC-based software and equipment •Good understanding of server hardware and software and network protocols •Able to diagnose complex problems quickly and implement effective solutions •Able to effectively assist staff members with very limited technical skills in the use of their equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s-level degree in a computer-related field, or 1-2 years’ experience as a computer maintenance technician in a networked environment. •1-2 years’ experience installing, configuring, and maintaining server-level equipment in a medium-sized office environment is a plus. •Full knowledge of all Windows platforms
Success Factors:
•Must be able to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences. •The ability to maintain a “level head” and calm demeanor in high-pressure situations is vital. •Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor regardless of what the customer says or does.
