Event Planning Intern - Arlington VA

Job Description
NAMI is seeking a motivated individual to intern in our Meetings and Conventions department as our Event Planning Intern. The Event Planning Intern will have the opportunity to work with our team of three to plan the annual convention (2000 attendees, June 2013) and smaller meetings throughout the year. The intern will gain exposure and knowledge about logistics such as BEOs, vendors’ communications, marketing, program development and design, speakers’ management, online registration system and exhibits management. No prior experience is necessary.

Qualifications

•Strong written and oral communication skills.
•Excellent intrapersonal skills and ability to communicate and work with a wide variety of people.
•Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
•Excellent organizational and time management skills.
•Detail oriented
•Interest in nonprofits and event planning.

This internship is unpaid; however, NAMI can help interns obtain college credit for their work when available. The length on the internship is from December 2012 to the end of June 2013. Our ideal candidate will be available for 15-20 hours a week from December 2012 to February 2013 and up to 30 hours from March to June 2013. The schedule can be flexible to work around school hours if needed.
