Fifth Annual Gordon & Sharon Smith
New Freedom Award Dinner Oct. 10

Sen. Gordon and Sharon Smith will present Multnomah County Presiding Circuit Court Judge Nan Waller and former Multnomah County Commissioner Lisa Naito with the Gordon and Sharon Smith New Freedom Award at a dinner to be held at the Portland Downtown Waterfront Marriott on October 10.

Created by NAMI Oregon in 2009 to honor the mental health advocacy efforts of former U.S. Sen.Gordon Smith and his wife Sharon, the New Freedom Award is presented annually and recognizes an individual or individuals for their leadership on mental health issues.

“Both Judge Waller and Lisa Naito have worked tirelessly and effectively on behalf of individuals and families battling mental health issues,” said former Sen. Smith. “NAMI Oregon has chosen very wisely in recognizing them for the positive and life-changing difference they have made and continue to make.”

2013 NAMI NORTHWEST WALK

Thanks for a record-breaking walk! We are still counting money, but 2,750 of us walked with us- the biggest crowd ever - to make a statement that mental health matters. Thanks to all of our volunteers, sponsors, donors, and walkers for making the 11th annual NAMI Northwest Walk, sponsored by Providence, a great one! We will be accepting walk donations on the walk website, www.namiwalks.org/Northwest, and via check until July 15. Please send checks to NAMI Northwest Walk, 4701 SE 24th Ave., Suite E, Portland, OR, 97202, and enclose a note letting us know which team or NAMI affiliate you are supporting.

Welcome to NAMI Oregon

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Oregon (NAMI Oregon) is a statewide grassroots organization with more than 1,500 members in 15 affiliates; it is one of 50 state organizations that comprise the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).   Our mission is to improve the quality of life of individuals living with mental illness and their families and loved ones through education, support, and advocacy. Our statewide toll-free Helpline (800-343-6264) is answered by trained volunteers and staff who provide information and referrals to mental health resources.

NAMI Oregon's affiliates, which rely on the support of dedicated volunteers, are vital to providing programs and services locally to let you know you are not alone. NAMI Oregon also works to ensure that everyone affected by mental illness is represented wherever decisions are made. NAMI Oregon testifies before the state legislature, serves on state planning and advisory committees, actively partners with strategic coalitions, and participates in task forces and other policy forums.

Peer Advocacy and Community Supports

NAMI Oregon is now offering Peer Advocacy and Community Supports (PACS) appointments for Multnomah county residents. Started by staff at NAMI of Washington County, PACS is a one-on-one resource referral service to help individuals living with mental illness access a wide range of resources.
