The mission of NAMI-Wayne County, as a satellite of NAMI-Rochester, is to:

  • To provide support—the opportunity to establish friendships with understanding, to share problems and feelings, offering hope, and strength to others who may be going through similar experiences.
  • To provide a forum for families, friends, and/or including individuals to help each other explore effective ways of coping with the impact of mental illness or MICA situations regardless of age.
  • To make available information and education about mental illness, the service delivery system, community programs and resources, mental health legislation, research breakthroughs, and other associated issues.
  • To improve attitudes and reduce stigma towards mental illness and to advocate on behalf of persons with mental illness or MICA situations and their families and friends.
