Mental Health Crisis Training for Religious LeadersAn article in the Austin American-Statesman reports that several Religious leaders and staff learned how to identify a person having a mental health crisis, how to respond, and how officers handle a situation inside a religious sanctuary. New Web Site Offers Mental Illness ResourcesThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has introduced a new Web site with mental illness resources. Episcopal Mental Illness Network Workshop
The Episcopal Mental Illness Network will host a "Caring Congregations for All" workshop to discuss inclusive faith communities and stigma surrounding mental illness. Yolanda Alvaredo, founder and director of the Faith-based Mental Health Initiative of San Antonio, will deliver the key note address. There is no cost for attendance. NAMI Indianapolis invites clergy and congregational leaders of all faiths to better understand the needs of children and youth with special mental and emotional needs. Dr. Ann Adinamis, M.D., child and adolescent psychiatrist, will speak about symptoms and treatment of major early on-set childhood mental illnesses. Break-out sessions will address eating disorders, suicide prevention, substance abuse and workshops on African American and Spanish-speaking youth.
