NAMI FaithNet Offerings at the 2009 NAMI National Convention
Registration for the convention is not required for persons in the Bay Area who wish to attend this Networking Session. There is no charge.
Tuesday, July 7, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
The NAMI FaithNet Networking Session
Find out what other NAMI members and affiliates are doing to create supportive congregations for people with mental illness. NAMI FaithNet’s Advisory Board chair will highlight the NAMI FaithNet mission and guidelines, brochure, Web page and resources. In addition, four strong mental health ministries in the San Francisco area and NAMI San Antonio will present their successful multi-cultural mental health ministries. Time will be given to other attendees to summarize their work, materials and activities related to spirituality and mental health education, awareness and recovery. Bring your ideas, handouts and questions.

Hard Questions on Faith and Mental Illness: A Multi-faith Panel Responds
Mental illness truly challenges our thinking and poses tough faith questions. We offer no simple answers, but learning to discuss and wrestle with the questions will better equip us to integrate faith with mental health recovery and real life challenges. Religious leaders from the Muslim, Jewish and Christian traditions will provide their perspectives on a few of the more difficult questions.

New Initiative by the National Catholic Partnership on Disability
A new, multi-pronged initiative by the National Catholic Partnership on Disability is aimed at helping parishes meet the social, emotional and spiritual needs of people with severe mental illness. Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, Episcopal moderator of the Washington-based National Catholic Partnership on Disability, praised the new initiative as an "important and necessary venture to help parishes welcome, include and serve the spiritual needs of Catholics with mental illness."
Faith Community Partners with Pathways to Housing
Pathways to Housing of York County, South Carolina, and a group of church and community leaders are working together to help the homeless.
