The 2006 awards focus on psychiatrists who have made substantial contributions to state or local NAMI activities, and who demonstrate exemplary commitment and expertise in the area of disaster psychiatry, and post traumatic stress disorder. "We recognize these exemplary psychiatrists for their contributions to disaster relief efforts nationwide," said NAMI national executive director Michael J. Fitzpatrick. "Tragedies, such as hurricane Katrina, affect whole communities. These psychiatrists help people recover from such national tragedies, and from the personal tragedies people face in their daily lives." The annual award program is supported by Eli Lilly & Co.
