Many of you reported that Judge Mills Lane during his  syndicated TV program during the week of January 21st, l999, told  a man diagnosed with severe depression who was  taking Prozac, to throw away his pills before he became addicted to the medication.  Additionally, the Judge allowed laughter and ridicule in the courtroom after hearing that  a woman with a similar diagnosis was on disability income. His attitude fuels the stigma against persons with mental illness.

NAMI sent Judge Lane a letter describing our concerns and educating him about major depression, the devastating symptoms of this brain disorder and the need for medication, like for any other disorder of the body. We also reminded him that a person needs a doctor to prescribe  when to start or stop taking medication.

To date, Judge Mills Lane has not responded to NAMI's letter.  The time has come for you to write to the Judge, and repeat the severe and profound symptoms of  major depression and the need for medication such as for diabetes.  Or medications for high blood pressure, chemotherapy for cancer, etc.  Please write to:
