National Anti-Stigma Campaign: Free Teleconference
Wednesday, January 17, 3:00-4:30 PM (ET)
With the help of NAMI StigmaBusters, the National Anti-Stigma Campaign (NASC) was launched last month. For the first time in history, the authority of the federal government is behind a sustained national PSA campaign to reduce stigma and encourage support of people with mental illnesses.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) and the Advertising Council, new public service announcements (PSAs) are now available for use your communities. They are an important tool for every state or local anti-stigma campaign.
On Wednesday, January 17, 2007, from 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM (Eastern Time), the HHS Resource Center to Address Discrimination and Stigma Associated with Mental Illness (ADS Center) will hold a free teleconference training on how to use these new PSAs in local outreach efforts.
StigmaBusters are invited to register for this call on-line. Please pass the invitation along to interested friends and colleagues! Registration for the call closes at 5:00 p.m. (EST), on Tuesday, January 16.
PSAs covering many causes are sent every day to print, radio and television media. This teleconference training session is intended to help make sure that anti-stigma messages are heard.
The teleconference will cover the fundamentals of media outreach, including:
- An update on the NASC.
- Strategies for building media relations.
- Ideas for approaching your local media.
- How and when to customize PSA’s.
Your help is needed to get the message heard in your community.
