Join Our Team of Dedicated Volunteers
NAMI Queens/Nassau NEEDS YOUR VOLUNTEER POWER!
Volunteers have always played an important role in what we do and are responsible for some of our most successful programs. Below is a listing of our current needs. We’re looking for people who can make a significant time commitment and can be counted on.
Create a Telephone Network
It’s time to revive our advocacy telephone tree and do a better job of making our voice heard on the state and national level. This job requires someone to organize our membership list of approximately 500 and identify key callers. Each key caller will be responsible for calling five other NAMI members to communicate an advocacy alert. Good organizational skills, communicating via email and telephone, and data entry skills are needed. Create your own schedule. Work from home or at the NAMI Queens/Nassau office.
Organize Meetings with Legislators
Phone calls and emails are good. Face to face visits are even better. We are looking for volunteers who like to advocate on public policy issues and want to play a leadership role in organizing visits to key local legislators. Volunteers must be organized and comfortable speaking to legislators, making phone calls, and doing email. Create your own schedule. Work from home or at the NAMI Queens/Nassau office.
Volunteers are needed to:
· Distribute fliers and posters. Must have a car and be able to drive
· Secure sponsorships. We provide the brochures and you make the contacts!
· Form walk teams.
· Serve on committees such as refreshments, children’s activities, outreach to schools, etc.

NAMI Connection Facilitator Training
NAMI Connection is a new, national, recovery-based, support group program for people with mental illness. The groups are led by two trained facilitators who are in recovery themselves, and understand the challenges. Connection groups, which are free, meet weekly for 90 minutes and are open to all adults, 18 and older, with mental illness, regardless of diagnosis.
Are you a person living with mental illness? Are you at the stage in your recovery where you want to ‘give back,’ to empower, to help others in their recovery? We need YOU to become a NAMI Connection facilitator.
If you’re interested in being trained as a NAMI Connection facilitator, contact NAMI Queens/Nassau.
Do you want to become part of a national grassroots movement working collectively to help people who live with mental illness and contribute to real change in the mental health system? If you can answer yes, please apply to join our dedicated corps of volunteers. Sign up NOW!
