Materials and techniques can be copied by other agencies, but they can not duplicate the pride, enthusiasm and commitment of our people. NAMI St. Louis' Volunteer Program is certified by the United Way. Orientation includes an overview of NAMI St. Louis, a review of the handbook, an application to complete, and a discussion on a good fit for a volunteer task. Individuals interested in being HELPLine Associates, Course teachers or Support Group Facilitators must complete in-depth training and make a long term commitment. Family-to-Family Course teachers must be family members of individuals with mental illness. Peer-to-Peer Course mentor must be consumers (individuals diagnosed with a mental illness)h. Basics teachers must have a child with a mental illness. Provider course teachers may be a family member or a consumer. We attempt to place volunteers in a position immediately after orientation; however, this is not always possible due to the number of openings the timing of the training, etc.
