Depression and American Indian and Alaska Native Women
Depression is a common and highly treatable disorder affecting over 17-20 million Americans annually. Untreated and under-treated depression is the leading cause of suicide in the United States. Unfortunately, there is limited information available about the prevalence of mental illness among American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) women.
Prevalence among AIAN populations is problematic because they may be susceptible to unique factors that may affect their vulnerability to mental illness. (continue)
