Senate Clears FY 2007 Spending Legislation, Measure Moves to President Bush

February 16, 2007

By a vote of 81-15, the Senate on February 14 gave final passage to the $463.5 billion continuing funding resolution for the remaining months of the current fiscal year (FY 2007).  The bill (H.J.Res. 20) includes the current budgets for mental illness research at NIMH, mental health services at SAMHSA, housing programs at HUD and mental illness treatment services at the VA.  The bill passed by the Senate is identical to the version the House passed on January 31.  President Bush is expected to sign the bill into law shortly.

Final action on the FY 2007 “continuing resolution” brings an end to the FY 2007 budget process, nearly five months after the current fiscal year began.  Passage of H.J.Res 20 will also allow critical federal programs such as VA medical care, medical research at NIH and homeless funding at HUD to receive long overdue funding increases this year.
