Donation FAQ

I am receiving the error "Conversion failed when converting from a character string to a unique identifier." Why is this happening and how can I correct it?

This typically happens when two names or symbols are entered into the First Name and Last Name fields. Our system only accommodates one name per field.

To proceed with your donation, please enter one name in each of the name fields. You may add additional names in the Comments box. We will ensure that all names are included in the gift acknowledgment.

I don’t want to make a gift online. What are the other ways I can donate to NAMI?

Thank you for wanting to contribute to NAMI. There are two other ways you can make a donation. You can send a check to NAMI, PO Box 62596, Baltimore, MD 21264 or you can call Donor Services toll free at 1 (888) 999-NAMI (6264).

What is the difference between membership and a donation? Does my donation automatically qualify for membership?

A membership is a wonderful way to be part of NAMI and join us in the fight to improve the lives of people affected by mental illness. As a member, you are part of NAMI at the national, state, and local levels.

There are two membership types: regular and open door. You can become a member online.

A donation is a tax-deductible gift to NAMI. Donations sustain NAMI and provide the necessary operating funds so that we can educate, advocate and change the way America thinks about mental illness.

When you make a gift, it does not mean you are a member of NAMI. However, we have many people who choose to be both donors and members of our organization. They understand the value and benefit of being part of a movement and providing financial resources to sustain our vision and mission.

I want to support NAMIWalks. Can I do that online?

Yes, please visit the NAMIWalks site to make a gift.

What is memorial/tribute/personal fundraising page and how do I create one?

A memorial fundraising page is created to raise funds in the name of deceased family member or friend.

A tribute fundraising page is created to raise funds in honor of a person who is living. Typically honors include birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, the addition of a child, or other milestone.

A personal fundraising page is created by an individual who would like to raise funds for NAMI and are asking their network of friends and family to contribute.

Will someone be notified that I am making an honorary or memorial gift?

If you provide the name and mailing address of the individual that you would like to receive notification, we will send a letter. We do not include the amount of your gift.

Can family and friends donate to NAMI in lieu of flowers or gifts for a special occasion?

Yes, NAMI is grateful to be beneficiary of donations in lieu of flowers or gifts. You may set up an individual fundraising page online to capture gifts.

Who do I contact about corporate matching gifts?

I want to donate my vehicle to NAMI, how do I do that?

NAMI partners with the V-DAC program, which accepts vehicles on our behalf. There is no cost to you to use this program.

Are gifts to NAMI tax-deductible?

Yes, NAMI (ID: 43-1201653) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
