Celebration and Learning
The final full day of the 2008 NAMI National Convention in Orlando, FL, began with eight symposia covering a wide range of topics, including:
- Unclaimed Children Revisited: Children's Mental Health in America
- Covering the Uninsured
- Supported Employment and Clubhouses
- Transition to Adulthood
- Meeting the Needs of Older Adults
- The VA at War
At the annual business meeting, in addition to welcoming new national board members, NAMI recognized the recipients of numerous awards including the Lionel Aldridge Award, Richard T. Greer Advocacy Award, Multicultural Outreach Award, Outstanding State Award and the Outstanding Local Affiliate Award.
The afternoon brought the ever-popular Ask-the-Doctor sessions, for direct question-and-answer time with expert physicians on eight different mental illnesses, as well as a final round of workshops.
In the evening, attendees gathered for the convention closing banquet, emceed by Dr. Ken Duckworth and Miss Orlando, Ashley Panaggio. The Rona and Ken Purdy Award was given to Jane Pauley. Outstanding Media Awards were also honored.
Thanks to all the presenters, volunteers, sponsors, staff, and—most of all—attendees who made this a convention to remember. We look forward to welcoming you to San Francisco for the 2009 NAMI Convention, July 6-9.
