In July, the Ohio Supreme Court and Ohio Department of Mental Health recognized University of Akron Police Department Officer John T. Carroll Jr. and Detective Sheri L. Shannon. Carroll and Shannon are representatives from Summit County’s 17th CIT class, which trained Ohio’s 3000th CIT officer. Supreme Court Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton and Ohio Department of Mental Health Director Sandra Stephenson presented the award. Other speakers included Jim Mauro, executive director of NAMI Ohio, and Dr. Mark Munetz, clinical director of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Center of Excellence. Click here to read more about the ceremony.
