Linda Jensen

Linda Jensen, R.N., Ph.D. is on the NAMI Board of Directors and is a professor of graduate nursing at Clarkson College teaching in the Master's and Doctoral Programs in Omaha, Neb.

Dr. Jensen hopes to improve the quality of life for people with mental illness and their families by getting rid of stigma, improving care and increasing recovery supports through her affiliation with NAMI. Dr. Jensen believes NAMI has been a lifesaver for her family, offering hope and education.

She was appointed by Legislative HHS Committee to Behavioral Health Oversight Commission for Behavioral Health Reform in Nebraska, 2005-2008, and appointed by the governor to the Nebraska State Mental Health Planning and Evaluation Council, where she served as vice chair from 1994-2002. Dr. Jensen is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honorary, the American Nurses Association, and active in the Nebraska Nurses Association.

She has been the recipient of the Clarkson College Maltese Cross Medal for Community Service, 2012; Humana Starlight Award for Volunteer Service, 2010; the University of Nebraska Medical Center Spirit of Community Service Award, 2006; the Nebraska Rural Health Association Outstanding Achievement Award, 2005; and the Nebraska Nurses Association Nurse of the Year Award, 2005; and the NAMI Nebraska Friend of NAMI Award in 1997, among others.

Dr. Jensen was on the NAMI Nebraska board of directors for 14 years, where she served as board president for seven years. She has been a NAMI Family-to-Family program director, trainer and teacher. She is the volunteer coordinator for NAMI Nebraska Family-to-Family program. Dr. Jensen is a member of NAMI Omaha.

A frequent speaker on mental health issues Dr. Jensen has published articles in Issues in Mental Health Nursing, Journal of Business and Behavioral Sciences and the Journal of American Psychiatric Nurses Association, among others.

She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, her Masters in Nursing at Wichita State University, her B.S. in psychology at Kearney State College and her nursing diploma at Lincoln General School of Nursing.
