WHAT: Release of new report: "Answering the Call: Reducing The Costs of Untreated Mental Illness in Illinois, While Improving Care" and launch of NAMI Illinois’s "Campaign for the Mind of America"
WHEN: Wednesday , April 13, 2005, 2:00 p.m.
WHERE: Blue Room of the State Capitol, Springfield, IL
WHY YOU SHOULD BE THERE:
NAMI Illinois -- the Illinois chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) will release a new report, Answering the Call, providing a vivid snapshot of the costs to individuals, families, and taxpayers in Illinois of untreated mental illness. The report will present a cost-effective plan to reduce costs and improve care. Speakers will describe their day-to-day experience coping with the challenges of untreated mental illness—and the need for change.
The event also marks the state launch of the "Campaign for the Mind of America," a multi-year national and state-level initiative to increase access to mental health treatment and services. The Campaign works to create unique partnerships with those on the front lines of the current mental health treatment system crisis – education, law enforcement, health care, and business. NAMI leaders and partners will use findings from the report to meet with administration officials and legislators to urge them to make economically sound evidence-based decisions.
