Start Planning for National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month 2010

Recovery for All
December 2009

Since the first National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month in July 2008, NAMI states and affiliates across the country have joined the celebration and effort to increase awareness of mental illness among diverse communities during this special month. Last year a variety of events took place, including a special town hall meeting held at the NAMI National convention and many proclamations of this special month were made by local leaders expressing the importance of mental health promotion for all.

Make your plans early for July 2010! NAMI leaders and our partners around the country can raise awareness of mental illness, treatment and recovery in diverse communities during this month by hosting special events and partnering with local multicultural businesses and organizations. Many who have experience with Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) can draw from this experience for good ideas of the types of activities and events to host to raise mental health awareness.

The Multicultural Action Center is already gearing up for National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month 2010 and will provide new resources and ideas to support your efforts. Stay tuned and visit the NAMI Web site for updates.
