The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raising awareness and building the community of hope for all those in need. NAMI Massachusetts (NAMI Mass) is a nonprofit grassroots education and advocacy group dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with mental illness and their families. Founded 30 years ago, NAMI Mass has 20 local affiliate chapters and over 2,000 members. NAMI Mass has its office in Woburn, Mass. NAMI Mass offers free education and support to people with mental illness and their family members across the Commonwealth. NAMI Mass seeks a consultant to work up to 20 hours per week to write grants to support our education and support programs. Hourly rate will be commensurate with experience. Some in-state travel will be required. Responsibilities include: •Working under the direction of the Executive Director, develop a long-term plan of which foundations NAMI will approach and for which projects; •Identify, evaluate, and cultivate foundations to support NAMI’s mission and programs; •Conduct research to help NAMI cultivate relationships with new funders; •Working with staff, write grants to support NAMI’s education and support programs; •File any interim or final reports with foundations. Qualifications: •Proven ability to cultivate and manage foundation contacts and identify new opportunities for NAMI; •2 – 4 years of demonstrated grant writing experience in a nonprofit organization or similar service in an industry setting; •Proven track record as positive and energetic leader who builds and manages dynamic internal and external relationships; •Strong verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively; •Knowledge of foundation information services, research and techniques and evaluation; •High energy, positive “can do” attitude, flexibility, high degree of initiative and attention to details.
