STAR Center Project Manager - Arlington VA

Job Description
The Project Manager provides day-to-day management in the planning and implementation of STAR Center events, resources, systems, products, and communications, and works with the Director for ongoing quality improvement, evaluation and analysis of all program activities.

The Project Manager works closely with cooperating services providers/agencies and various stakeholders to ensure STAR Center activities consistently promote and support best practices and standards that support recovery and full integration of people with psychiatric disabilities in the community.

Essential Functions:

•Receive, record, respond to and track incoming messages, calls, emails, faxes, and other communications regarding requests for information and technical assistance; in consultation with Director, determine appropriate responses and assistance

•In consultation with the Director, identify the STAR Center’s information and resource, including determining relevant topics in response to requests by people affected by mental illnesses

•Create and maintain a well-organized, comprehensive STAR Center data collection system and resource files including but not limited substantive files, e-mails, files on specific topics, summary sheets and a library of pertinent research, articles, and documents;

•Maintain data collection and manage reporting as required by funder

•Create, manage and oversee technical assistance request, response, and follow up evaluation procedures

•Maintain STAR Center website and listservs

•Participate in ongoing and scheduled discussion with TA-focus area groups, leaders, and collaborators, in partnership with the Director; coordinate communication and support logistics to SAMHSA-selected technical assistance/target states; potentially travel for sites visits to target states

•Creates new products and tools for TA focus-state work, in collaboration with Director

•Provide regularly scheduled updates, mass emails, and other communications in collaboration with Director

•Establish and maintain rapport with current and potential STAR Center collaborators and strategic partners

•Based on constituents’ needs and interests, suggest areas related to consumer- and consumer-supporter issues for development of additional program materials, practices, documents, databases, evaluation measures, products, and practices

•Manage logistics and support facilitation of meetings, webinars and teleconferences

•Provide regular and timely feedback to the Project Director and Government Project Officer and is proactive in the identification and resolution of issues that may impact on project deliverables, quality of service, and effective evaluation and measurement of program outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

•Strong organizational, logistical and analytical skills
•Ability to communicate clearly in both written and spoken forms
•Understanding of dimensions of diversity issues, cultural competence, and effective interaction and communication skills necessary with consumers, consumer supporters, professionals, and other stake holders.
•Experience managing complex information and tasks
•Strong computer/database management skills
•Ability to work well with wide-ranging audiences
•Proven ability to work independently
•Effective problem-solving, planning, and project implementation skills.
•Ability to maintain a positive attitude and high energy style that is visible and demonstrative

Desired Qualifications:

•Knowledge of issues affecting those living with mental illness.
•Fluency in at least one language in addition to English.


•Bachelor’s Degree preferred; more advanced degree additionally desirable.
