Marilyn Ricci serves on the NAMI Board of Directors and is president and a consulting dietitian at Cornucopia Food Service, Inc. in Collinsville, Conn. She is on the board of NAMI Farmington Valley in Connecticut, which she helped found in 2004 and where she served as president for two years. Previously, she was the President of NAMI Connecticut. As the result of a grant, she worked on NAMI Affiliate development for the state of Connecticut. She has served twice as Connecticut's NAMIWalks chairperson and has participated in the NAMIWalks program since it began in Connecticut.
Mrs. Ricci came to NAMI after being referred by a psychiatrist. She joined a support group and then took Family-to-Family with her husband, which significantly improved her family's life. She became a Family-to-Family teacher and continues to teach on a regular basis. She is a support group facilitator and state support group trainer. Mrs. Ricci is committed to helping to strengthen NAMI Affiliates and represents the NAMI Affiliate viewpoint while on the NAMI Board of Directors. She believes that NAMI Affiliates must be strong organizations to best serve families and individuals living with mental illness.
Mrs. Ricci has a master’s degree in community nutrition from the University of Connecticut and is a registered dietitian. Presently, she consults with several mental health agencies in her states as a member of their wellness programs, doing nutrition workshops with clients and staff. She also consults with public schools and elderly nutrition programs. Mrs. Ricci founded Cornucopia Food Service in 1981, which presently runs a banquet hall and elderly nutrition "Meals on Wheels" program. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association, the League of Women Voters and the School Nutrition Association. Her articles have appeared in Schizophrenia Digest and the NAMI Advocate.
