In February 2009, the Multicultural Action Center kicked off a new effort to support and meaningfully include American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities within NAMI with an AI/AN listening session held in Arlington, Va. This event was just the beginning of new efforts, new found partners and an AI/AN Leaders Group formed to further advise NAMI National. Most recently, NAMI partnered with the Indian Health Service Division of Behavioral Health to co-sponsor a Webinar on AI/AN mental health held in honor of Native American Heritage Month 2009.
