COMPEER

Compeer is a not for profit organization which matches community volunteers in supportive friendship relationships with children and adults receiving mental health treatment. "Compeer" means a "companion who is also a peer or equal."

Compeer volunteers meet with their friend on a regular basis at mutually convenient times, to share activities they both enjoy. Activities range from movies, sports, shopping... through coffee and a chat, or many of the free activities sponsored by the Compeer Program.

Compeer relationships are mutually beneficial. A Compeer may be a caring friend that can inspire joy and hope in a person who lives with mental illness. Compeer volunteers gain a sense of personal satisfaction that comes from helping others.

To learn more about the Compeer program, call Judy Evans at (239) 340-1199, or NAMI-Collier County at (239)434-6726.
