"Community Action Grants" support the adoption of exemplary service delivery practices related to the delivery and/or organization of services or supports for children with serious emotional disturbances and adults with serious mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders.
"School Action Grants" help young people develop the skills and emotional resilience necessary to maintain healthy lives, engage in pro-social behavior, decrease suicide, prevent violent behavior and decrease the use of alcohol and illicit drugs.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) today announced the scheduling of three two-day technical assistance workshops to help prospective grant applicants, including governmental entities, community-based organizations, hospitals, schools and universities, prepare responses to SAMHSA's Guidance for Applicants (GFAs).
SAMHSA is offering numerous funding opportunities in fiscal year 2000 designed to help solve local substance abuse and mental health problems. Grant topics involving each of SAMHSA's three centers include:
Center for Mental Health Services
Center for Substance Abuse Treatment
Center for Substance Abuse Prevention
These workshops are to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, Kansas City, Missouri, and San Diego, California in March of this year.
Program staff from SAMHSA*s three Centers, the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), and the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), will be available to discuss the announcements as will other specialized staff to discuss and answer questions pertaining to grants management and application review. It is suggested that attendee(s) from your organization be the person(s) responsible for conceptualizing the project and writing the application.
Following the day-one training session, the second day will offer further assistance to participants in grant application preparation. The workshops will be held in the following locations:

There is no registration fee for the workshops. Preregistration is strongly encouraged and participants will be responsible for their own travel, meals and lodging costs, as well as for making their travel and hotel reservations.
