Hurricane Katrina: One Year Later

August 29, 2006

One year has elapsed since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the Gulf Coast. The region has barely recovered. This is especially true for people with serious mental illnesses. Access to care for those with pre-existing disabilities was poor even before the disaster; since then, hundreds of thousands of people also have found themselves contending with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression. NAMI offers a compilation of news stories that convey the scope of what is an ongoing disaster.
