A new report in the Journal of Pediatric Nursing shifts discussion about attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) from the medical experts to the people most directly affected—the kids.
"I Have Always Felt Different" is summarized in Tara Parker-Pope’s health blog “Well” in The New York Times.
Based on interviews with 16 college students who were diagnosed with ADHD as children, the report describes the problems the students faced ranging from schoolwork to maintaining friendships- but in their own words.
Assistant professors Robin Bartlett and Mona M. Shattell of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro interviewed the students in hopes of presenting a report that can discuss coping methods directly from the mouths of the children who have experienced it.
