Schizophrenia

In a study announced by Harvard Medical School recently, evidence suggests that restrictive drug policies can cause patients with schizophrenia to stop taking their medication. According to an article in the The Washington Post, the study was conducted to look at Medicare recipients in Maine. Maine has since changed its policies.

Due to the different ways any one person can react to a medication, these policies can do more harm than good. Jumping through hoops to switch medications has actually caused more patients with schizophrenia to disrupt their medication, or stop taking it all together. Research has shown that disruption in medications can have harmful effects for a patient.
