NAMI Advocates to Visit Capitol Hill in June

September 2005

NAMI is calling on advocates to join us for our 2006 Annual Convention in Washington, D.C., next June.  We are planning a major lobbying push to spur action on the recommendations contained in the final report of the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health.  Although the report – which echoed much of what NAMI has been saying for years – supplied concrete goals to transform our nation's mental health care system and laid out specific strategies to achieve these goals, not enough has been accomplished in the two and a half years since its release.  Join us next June 28 – July 2 in Washington, D.C., when NAMI unleashes thousands of grassroots activists to meet with Congressional representatives to demand action now!

Building on over 25 years of tradition, the 2006 NAMI Annual Convention provides four days of top-notch educational opportunities, insights on new strategies to achieve our goals, and plenty of networking time with old friends and new contacts.  If you are serious about transforming the mental health systems in our country and improving the lives of people with mental illnesses, make plans to attend NAMI's 2006 Annual Convention, June 28 – July 2, in Washington, D.C.

For more information about the convention and to access an online registration form, please visit our Web site, www.nami.org/convention.   Register before the end of the year and take advantage of our First-on-Board registration rates.  The earlier you register, the more you'll save.   You can also submit a workshop proposal for consideration by NAMI's 2006 Annual Convention Committee at this site.
