2014 NAMI Voting & Elections Information
NAMI is pleased to announce the following candidates for this year’s 2014 NAMI Board of Directors! Five (5) candidates will be elected to serve for the standard three-year term.
All nominees are NAMI members and members of the NAMI Affiliate or NAMI State Organization making the nomination. Nominations were made by NAMI Affiliates and NAMI State Organizations that have submitted their membership and paid dues by the nomination deadline.
To learn more about these very worthwhile nominees, click on the candidates’ names to read their statements of candidacy, find out their NAMI affiliations and other Board service and also to read their letters of nomination from the NAMI Affiliates or NAMI State Organizations recommending them for service to the NAMI Board.

The Voting Process
NAMI Affiliates in good standing (those who have certified by June 27, 2014) and NAMI State Organizations may cast votes in NAMI elections. Each group may vote absentee or appoint a delegate or proxy to vote on its behalf. Individual NAMI members do not vote directly in NAMI’s national elections.
NAMI State Organizations each get one vote in NAMI elections. NAMI Affiliates have “weighted votes” based on the number of members in the group as of 90 days prior to the election. The more members your group has, the more votes you get, ranging from 1 vote for groups of 5 – 50 members, to 10 votes for groups of 800 or more.
Individuals do not vote in NAMI’s national elections, but all NAMI members have an opportunity to participate in the election process by helping to decide how your Affiliate or State Organization will cast its vote. Contact your Affiliate and State Organization leaders for more information about how and when they will be deciding how to cast your vote. Each NAMI Affiliate and NAMI State Organization chooses someone to serve as their delegate or proxy. That person will cast the ballot on behalf of the group.
In late July, a packet of voting information, including the ballot, credentialing form, a copy of the election issue of the Advocate, and instructions for voting was mailed to each Affiliate and State Organization in good standing.
Members can begin convening now to consider your priorities. We urge you to join in this decision-making process!
Credentialing forms specifying who will serve as delegate or proxy for each group must be submitted by NAMI Affiliates and NAMI State Organizations to the NAMI office by August 27, 2014. To save time and expedite the voting process, Affiliates and State Organizations are strongly encouraged to return the credentialing form or complete it online in advance of the day of voting.
If you have not received your voting packet by August 1 and believe your Affiliate is in good standing and should have been on the mailing list, contact email@example.com, and we will work with Member Services to determine the status of your Affiliate.
The documents included in the voting packet are referenced below.
Affiliates and State Organizations that wish to vote absentee may do so via official ballots that will be mailed in July. Absentee ballots are due to NAMI by August 27, 2014.
Voting will take place on Friday, September 5 at the NAMI Convention in Washington, D.C. The NAMI convention program will include a map with the voting area clearly marked. Credentialed delegates/proxies may vote between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Only credentialed delegates or proxies may cast ballots. All ballots must be returned to the ballot box by 6:00 p.m.
Affiliates or State Organizations that do not return voting credentials to NAMI by August 27, 2014, will be subject to onsite review. Affiliates and State Organizations are strongly encouraged to pre-credential in advance to save time in line at the ballot box.
Results of the election will be reported at the NAMI business meeting on Saturday, September 6. Results will also be posted on this page shortly after Convention.
