NAMI National Convention June 30-July 3
The 2010 NAMI National Convention is in Washington, D.C., this year from June 30-July 3. The conference ends just in time to celebrate the Fourth of July in our nation’s capital! The conference features a number of exciting programs, including:

New Site Helps Communities Save Money, Improve Safety
The Urban Institute’s Justice Reinvestment at the Local Level Initiative recently launched its website, justicereinvestment.urban.org. Justice reinvestment employs data and collaborative decision-making to help jurisdictions reduce criminal justice spending by controlling growth in correctional populations while ensuring public safety. The overarching goal of local justice reinvestment work is to reduce county, city, and/or tribal criminal justice costs and reinvest those resources to yield a more cost-beneficial impact on public safety and community well-being. Justice Center Releases Reentry Housing Options: The Policymakers’ Guide
The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center recently released a new publication, Reentry Housing Options: The Policymakers’ Guide, which provides practical steps that lawmakers and others can take to increase public safety through better access to affordable housing for individuals released to the community. Launch Party! Win an Autographed CD
Are you age 18-25? If so, please sign up now as a member of StrengthofUs.org, NAMI’s new online community for young adults. If not, then pass the word to family members and friends in that transitional age group. The new community is held a digital “launch party” last month with a special music preview from internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter William Fitzsimmons, who previously worked as a mental health therapist. The site features a remix of Fitzsimmons’ song "Goodmorning" from his upcoming Derivatives EP. In addition, the 1,000th person to join StrengthofUs.org will receive an autographed copy of his previous CD, The Sparrow and the Crow, for which he was named an iTunes best singer-songwriter.
