“Addressing Mental Health Disparities through CIT”
Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) programs offer much more than a training to improve outcomes of law enforcement interactions with individuals living with mental illness. CIT’s effectiveness relies on strong collaboration across mental health and public safety systems--in which all cultural communities have a stake--to address underlying issues that lead to criminalization of individuals with mental illness.
This webinar will provide basic information on CIT, introduce a new CIT for Youth implementation manual and share examples of how CIT bridges cultural communities, highlighting the potential to address important mental health disparities issues within CIT collaborations. Presenters include Dana Markey, program manager of NAMI’s Child and Adolescent Action Center and Laura Usher, program coordinator of NAMI’s CIT Center. Marin Swesey, program manager of NAMI’s Multicultural Action Center, will moderate.
