Countering Discrimination and Stigma

In January, 2004, the federal Resource Center to Address Discrimination and Stigma (ADS Center) held a teleconference entitled "Working with Faith Communities to Counter Discrimination and Stigma."

Presenters provided steps to engage the faith-based community to educate their members and their communities about people with mental illnesses.

Using your phone, you can now listen to an archive of this teleconference, as well as download the corresponding slides. Read more…

NAMIWALKS: Walk the Walk with Your Faith Community

Beginning this weekend in Arizona, NAMIWALKS kicks off its 2007 season. This year, over 200 NAMI affiliates will be engaged in WALKS across America. During the year, NAMIWALKS will be held in 43 states and in almost every major city in the country, so chances are there is one happening near you.

NAMIWALKS are designed to:

  • Raise awareness about mental illness and recovery
  • Increase community education and reach out to new families and individuals living with mental illness
  • Enable local NAMI affiliates to increase their support and services to families and individuals living with mental illness

In short, NAMIWALKS presents a great opportunity for your faith community to become more aware of mental illness and show its support for those with mental illnesses.

Please consider organizing a team from your church, synagogue, mosque, or temple to participate in the nearest NAMIWALK this year.

To learn more, find a walk near you and get started, visit the NAMIWALKS Web site.
