Evidence-Based Practices and Multicultural Mental Health

Recovery for All
December 2008

Evidence-Based Practice and Multicultural Mental Health, a resource developed and released in 2008, explores recent literature discussing EBPs, with special consideration of multicultural issues. The mental health system has been moving toward adoption and implementation of evidence-based practices (EBPs), not only to reduce variability in treatment and improve quality of care, but also to meet increased accountability requirements and deal with tightened federal and state budgets.

While EBPs have been received with wide support, this movement presents new challenges to multicultural mental health. This resource provides information on key issues in evidence-based practices with particular emphasis on cultural considerations in mental health care.

Access Evidence-Based Practice and Multicultural Mental Health here.

A symposium on this topic was held during the NAMI 2008 Convention in Orlando, featuring presentations from an expert panel including Ken Martinez, Psy.D., American Institutes for Research, Vivian, Jackson, Ph.D., National Center for Cultural Competence and Annelle Primm, MD, American Psychiatric Association. Access session information and PowerPoint presentations here.
