The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the nation’s largest organization focused on serious mental illnesses, offers unpaid summer internships with its Communications team. Work with media relations, publications, graphics, website content development and social media. Strong writing, editing and research skills essential. Education in communications, public relations or related field preferred. Background or interest in mental health issues or health care policy helpful. Public Information and Education Web Resources
Assist the Communications Department in completing an audit of selected content sections of nami.org, including major action centers. In addition to auditing for accuracy and compliance with the NAMI Identity Guide, the intern(s) will conduct research and recommend and/or develop new content to compliment, refresh and update existing resources. Areas of focus will include:

Media Relations Assistant
Working with NAMI’s Media Relations director on tasks including:
•Daily media clips preparation and distribution •Research and writing; e.g., short press releases, articles or Web content •Assistance in managing and fulfilling media requests •Other duties as assigned
Graphic Design Assistant
Working with NAMI’s Publishing Director and Communications director to provide: •Social media graphics •Web graphics •layout of reports and fact sheets •video/photo editing •other duties as assigned
Editorial intern
Learn NAMI’s editorial style guide and serve as copy editor across NAMI content, including daily news stories, reports, magazines, fact sheets, web sections, etc.
Other
Assist the Communications Team at the NAMI Convention, including assistance with preparation for media relations, photo direction, social media, tweeting, VIP relations, book signings and authors, opening plenary and more. Assist with VIP relations, marketing research and other tasks related to NAMI’s marketing plans.
