CMS Demonstration Project Grants

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced the 10 states that will receive grant awards to develop their children’s mental health system under the Community Alternatives to Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTF) demonstrations funded in the Deficit Reduction Act. Under these grants, states can provide intensive home and community based services to children who would otherwise be eligible for residential treatment or who are currently in residential treatment and seek to return to their homes and communities.  The states receiving grants include:

  • Alaska
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Indiana
  • Kansas
  • Maryland
  • Mississippi
  • Montana
  • South Carolina
  • Virginia

NAMI has strongly supported this initiative as an opportunity to provide comprehensive services to children with serious mental illnesses.

To get more information about the grant visit the CMS website.
