Florida's attempts to Restrict Access to Medications
In 1999, the Florida legislature passed into law a measure that wisely protects access to medications for people with mental illness eligible for Medicaid. ACCESS TO MEDICATIONS, however, is being threatened and will be restricted if a bill requiring Medicaid recepients with mental illness in Florida to get care through managed care, from their health maintenance organization.
The St. Petersburg Times recently reported on these cuts in their story entitled "Painful Cuts loom for Medicaid."
This is a dangerous proposition, and advocates are asked to ACT NOW and contact their legislators, asking them to NOT support this ill advised bill.
