Advocacy Spotlight: New Resource on Training Available from the Council of State Governments
The Council of State Government’s Justice Center has released the newest guide in its series, Improving Responses to People with Mental Illnesses, entitled "Strategies for Effective Law Enforcement Training." The guide is designed to help communities build effective training programs while avoiding common pitfalls. The guide includes sections on: strategies for recruiting trainers, how to tailor training sessions to law enforcement needs, effective use of role-plays, and the use of site visits, consumer presentations and simulations to better understand the perspective of consumers and family members. The guide is available on the Criminal Justice/Mental Health Consensus Project website.
