Satcher: Cuts Show Lack of Seriousness About Ending Racial Disparities

CQ HEALTHBEAT NEWS
Dec. 21, 2007

During a December 14, 2007 panel discussion hosted by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, former U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher cited a lack of federal funding toward minorty health focused programs, and discussed the strain on progress to eliminate disparities in health. The CQ HealthBeat News full article offers highlights of the panel discussion and examples of federal efforts to end racial and ethnic health care disparities therein.

According to Satcher, “If we are serious about eliminating disparities in health, if we are serious about improving health of minorities, then we would adequately fund these programs. And we’re nowhere close to adequate.”
