Support Funding for Housing

In the coming weeks, Congress will consider two proposals on funding for housing programs targeted people with mental illness. One would cut the HUD Section 811 program that develops community-based housing for people with mental illness and other disabilities. Section 811 is a critical source of funding for new units of supportive housing targeted to non-elderly people with disabilities, including severe mental illness. NAMI is urging Congress to restore funding for this important affordable housing resource. A second proposal would boost funding for homeless programs under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, including programs targeted to people with mental illness that have experienced chronic homelessness. NAMI supports this proposal as well.
Action Required
Contact your members of Congress and urge them to oppose cuts to Section 811, and support increased funding for McKinney-Vento homeless programs.
