NAMI warns Senate Committee of lost scientific opportunities if mental illness research funding is cut

Today at a Senate Hearing NAMI President, Suzanne Vogel-Scibilia, testified on the importance of mental illness research and the need for continued investment in medical research on schizophrenia, bipolar disease, and major depression. In her testimony, Dr. Vogel-Scibilia made clear that proposals to freeze funding for the National Institute on Mental Health (NIMH) will compromise our ability to develop a third generation of more effective treatments and movement toward cures for these devastating illnesses.
