Obama Administration Releases Details of FY 2010 Budget Proposal

The Obama Administration today issued detailed budget requests for FY 2010, including proposed spending levels for mental illness research and services, as well as housing and veterans programs.  Congress will being taking up these requests in June as it moves forward on major discretionary spending bills covering all non-mandatory programs.  Among the highlights in the President’s requests are:

  • $24 million in additional funding for the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), boosting funding to $1.475 billion,
  • $17 million in increased funding for the Children’s Mental Health program at SAMHSA,
  • $29 million in additional funding mental health treatment at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, and
  • $117 million for additional homeless assistance funding, boosting overall funding for the McKinney-Vento program to $1.794 billion.
