SAMHSA Regional Grant Training Workshops

For Immediate Release, 17 Feb 00
Contact: Chris Marshall
703-524-7600

Note: The following is a notice from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announcing three regional workshops in Atlanta, GA, Kansas City, MO, and San Diego, CA, free to the public, that provide technical assistance training in making grant applications to SAMHSA. Although the majority of grants direct from SAMHSA and the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) are generally not applicable to the activities of most state and local NAMIs, it may be worthwhile to investigate what it is available and learn about grant writing in general. The workshops will include focus on two CMHS grants, "Community Action Grants" and "School Action Grants." A brief description is provided below.

"Community Action Grants" support the adoption of exemplary service delivery practices related to the delivery and/or organization of services or supports for children with serious emotional disturbances and adults with serious mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders.

"School Action Grants" help young people develop the skills and emotional resilience necessary to maintain healthy lives, engage in pro-social behavior, decrease suicide, prevent violent behavior and decrease the use of alcohol and illicit drugs.

The registration form should be completed and faxed to Ms. Lisa Wilder at (301) 984-4416, or mailed to:
