This is the Ryan Goldt memorial NAMI donation page. As we learn more about mental illness we understand the importance of research, education and outreach. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a leader for the cause, dedicated to improving the lives of all those affected by mental illness.

November 1, 1982 – April 8, 2011
Ryan was born November 1, 1982 in Flemington, New Jersey to loving mother, Laura Foderaro and father, Gary Goldt. Even as a young boy his personality was bubbly, bright, funny, generous and loving. He enjoyed wrestling, playing soccer, piano, trumpet, experiencing new food and cultures as well as entertaining friends and family. Ryan was a happy go-lucky boy and the life of the party.
At the age of 10 Ryan was diagnosed with ADHD and he had difficulty focusing in school. His cuteness, outgoing personality, and talkativeness sooned turned to misbehavior. Ryan struggled in school but managed to graduate from high school. It was very difficult for him as well as me. It was quite an accomplishment. After high school he had many jobs but they never lasted long and it was very dissapointing and frustrating for him.
On January 31, 2011 Ryan attempted suicide which was very shocking to me, our family and his friends. It was later determined that Ryan had suffered with depression for 5 years or more. Who would have known that this bubbly, happy go-lucky guy would be depressed? I asked why, but there were no answers. Ryan was transferred to a pyschiatric hospital 2 weeks later and was treated for a dual diagnosis of bipolar disorder and depression. Ryan told us that he had turned to drugs and alcohol in order to calm his anxiety. After 2 weeks he was to be released which was routine because he didn't have any medical insurance. I went before the committee to plea for him to stay longer and get more therapy to save my son's life.
On April 8, 2011 at the age of 28, his mental illness took control and he took his own life in the comfort of his grandmother Josephine's home in Flemington, New Jersey.
Ryan will be loved, missed and remembered forever. He will be remembered as a fun loving, kind and thoughful man with the warmest of hearts.
There is no more fear, there is only peace.
