Providing Awareness... Supporting Families... Eliminating Stigma
Those are the goals of Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, and those are the goals of NAMI's extensive programming at the 2009 National Convention aimed at improving our cultural competence, expanding access to treatment for cultural and ethnic minorities, and making NAMI's outreach to diverse communities more effective.
Among the events planned for the convention:
- A special address on Race Matters: Cultural Issues Regarding Health & Wellness by Dr. Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola, director of the Center for Reducing Health Disparities at the UC Davis School of Medicine and a professor of internal medicine there.
- A three-hour seminar on the key issues in recovery and community integration for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals with mental illness.
- A Town Hall Meeting celebrating the first anniversary of Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, highlighting minority mental health issues, and developing a plan to increase awareness and strengthen advocacy.

The oldest building in San Francisco, Mission Dolores was constructed by the Franciscan friars and Ohlone Indians in 1791.
At that time the land was still claimed by Spanish pioneers and called Alta California.
The columned façade is actually a single wall of whitewashed adobe bricks.
Inside the church is a small museum and in back, the Mission cemetery contains an array of historical gravestones.
