In Loving Memory of Henry Amador

Welcome to my brother HENRY AMADOR's memorial page (that's Henry on the right) to help the National Alliance on Mental Illness!

Henry's kindness and openness to me and his treatment team, even in the face of our arguing with him about being mentally ill, inspired the book (I AM NOT SICK) and a solution (The LEAP program) to the "I am not sick, I don't need help!" impasse that created conflict and heartache for both sides.

Henry's kindness in letting me write about his experience helped tens of thousands of people and if he were alive today, I know he would have joined me on the last NAMI Walks fundraiser I did because he loved to walk and to help others. Indeed, he died while helping a complete stranger: If you read the book you know he died while in the act of being a good Samaritan.

NAMI played a pivotal role in helping my brother and me find common ground. That common ground helped Henry to live a meaningful life with close friends, treatment for the illness he never believed he had, lots of laughter and love.

Please take a moment and help Henry and me to give back to NAMI. Like acts of kindness, no donation amount is too small.
