In Loving Memory of Sheryl Champagne

Welcome to my personal web page for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of all those affected by mental illness.

My mom, Sheryl, died on July 6, 2012. She was one week shy of turning 70 years old. She was so full of life and love and laughter. We never saw it coming. She was always ready to help those less fortunate, in need of time, money or spiritual guidance. She believed there were no strangers. We are all God's children.

She had a very difficult upbringing, with her sisters Sherry Curtis of Ferndale, MI and Sharon, but rose above her station and forged a path to a better life.

She worked with the mentally retarded at Southeastern Virginia Training Center in Chesapeake, VA. Physical injuries forced her early retirement. With her husband, Richard Champagne, they retired and became very active at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Milton, FL. Sheryl provided aid to those in poor health through Covenant Hospice. She provided spiritual guidance and hope for the future to those incarcerated at Santa Rosa jail and the Blackwater Correctional Facility. Many inmates credit Sheryl with finding God and fostering a relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Sheryl was always trying to save those in need. There was no such thing as a lost cause to her. She battled depression and Bipolar most of her life. She was winning that battle. She saw her doctor regularly, took her medication as prescribed and was healthy and happy. Her death, and that of her grandson, Cary Costa, has left a whole in our family that can never be filled. I have created this fundraising page because NAMI, and the work they do, is very important to me. I wish I had known about NAMI before my mom's passing. There are so many programs that offer assistance to help those struggling with mental issues. So much help we desperately needed, but were unaware of. I am hopeful that with the donations raised in her honor, can help spread the awareness of NAMI and what services are available, so no other family has to experience the tragedy we live with daily.

Donating to me through this page is easy, fast and secure.

Any amount will make a difference for NAMI, but please try to give generously.

Both NAMI and I appreciate your donation.

Thank you for your support. God Bless.
